CONGRATULATIONS! The rent stabilization bill we fought for all year (EHB 1217) has gotten the votes to become law.
Well done everyone! This is a huge victory for manufactured home owners.
After a grueling legislative session and some close calls, the bill passed out of both the Senate and the House on the last day of the session, April 27.
Governor Ferguson signed it into bill on May 7th at 1pm.
Since there is an emergency clause in the bill, as soon as Governor Ferguson signs it into law the bill goes into effect immediately, capping rent increases for manufactured home owners at 5%.
This is a historic win for AMHO members and everyone else living in manufactured housing communities, and while our renter allies had a higher rent cap (7% plus the consumer price index or 10% tops, whichever is lower) the political landscape is always uncertain and this at least gives everyone a springboard and negotiating point going forward.
